Moderation

Last updated: 26 August 2026 · How we decide what stays up

This page describes decided policy in plain language. The formal community standards and terms of service are with legal counsel and will replace it. Where those documents and this page differ, those documents win.

The short version

A free society survives by discussing ideas in speech. For someone to be able to think and have ideas, someone has to risk being offensive. People may say what is incomplete, unpopular, or offensive. A human being decides every case. Software may flag something for attention, and it may put it in a queue. It may never hide, remove or restrict anything on its own. There is no code path in TREFA that can take a moderation action without a person having made the decision and it being recorded.

Builds, gear, tacticool, opinion, advocacy, range days, matches and hunting content are all explicitly allowed. Content is public in every country by default.

The two things that are never allowed

These are removed globally, without a case-by-case judgement, wherever they appear:

Everything else

Anything else alleged to be not in compliance with our moderation policy is evaluated in-house by a person, case by case. There are three possible outcomes:

TREFA holds notes on what is legal where, because European firearms law differs sharply between member states. Those notes are advisory only. They inform a moderator's judgement and give you a heads-up where something is likely to be a problem. They never trigger an action by themselves, and they never automatically gate, hide or restrict what you post.

Reporting something

There is one report button. You describe the problem in your own words if you want to; you are never asked to choose from a list of violation categories. Working out which rule something breaks is the moderator's job, not yours.

Who moderates

We do. Moderation is performed by the company, not by community volunteers, and not by an automated system acting alone.

Age

TREFA is an 18+ platform and is not marketed to minors.
